MOTIVE

As you consider the essential elements of the crime charged, you should understand that motive is not an essential element.  The State need not have proven motive.  However, you may consider motive or lack of motive as a circumstance in this case.  Presence of motive may tend to establish guilt, and absence of motive may tend to show that (Def)_______________ is not guilty.  You may give the presence or absence of motive, as the case may be, whatever weight you think it deserves.
